NQS7 – Leadership, Service Management and Effective Administration Policy

If you’re interested in learning more, you may read the following detailed information.

At Happy Hive, effective centre leadership across all our services is vital. It promotes a positive organisational culture, builds a professional learning environment, and commits to continuous improvement.

Key Happy Hive policies in this area cover the following topics:

Responsible Person

We are legally required to have a Responsible Person (being a Nominated or Person in day-to-day charge) physically present at Happy Hive centres at all times. The name and position of the Responsible Person in charge of the service at any given time will be displayed so that it is easily visible to anyone from the main entrance of the service.

Educational Leader

The educational leader has an influential role in an early years centre to inspire, motivate, affirm, and also challenge the practices and pedagogy of educators. Happy Hive is legally required to have a nominated Educational Leader at each of our centres, and this role sits within the centre leadership team. To confirm this, each centre must have completed the NQS7 Educational Leader Nomination form and ensure it is on file for reference if the regulator requires evidence.

Confidentiality, privacy and digital information security

Happy Hive collects personal information of parents, guardians, and children for the primary purposes of providing early childhood education and care services and advocating for the well-being, protection, and development of children. Happy Hive will only use your personal information for the purpose it was collected or a reasonably expected or related secondary purpose. Personal information will generally be collected from you directly through the use of our standard forms, over the internet via our website, via email communication with you, or through a telephone conversation with you. Personal information collected by Happy Hive will be stored securely in paper form or electronically at a Happy Hive Early Learning centre and/or at a Happy Hive Centre Support Office. Happy Hive may store, process, or back up your personal information on computer servers that are located overseas, including through third party service providers who assist us in operating our business. We will take all reasonable steps to protect any personal information that we hold from unauthorised use or disclosure.

Students and volunteers

Happy Hive encourages work experience in our centres, in particular for students studying towards an early childhood qualification. During work experience, students gain practical experience through interactions with our educators and children. We also welcome volunteers, recognising the enhancement they bring to our programs and the valuable contribution they make to our centres. In keeping with our commitment to ensure the health, safety, and wellbeing of children in our centres, students and volunteers at Happy Hive are required to adhere to all State-based screening requirements and hold relevant working with children clearances.

Tardiness

Being on time is a life skill important to each student’s future, and schools share the responsibility to teach the importance of this skill. Tardiness of individual students interrupts instructional time for all students. Promptness to class allows the teachers to begin the instruction on time for everyone. Tardiness to class is defined as not being physically in the room at 8:00 am.

  • Three tardies is equal to 1 unexcused absence
  • Three unexcused absences due to tardiness will result in a 7:00 am detention on the following school day.
  • If tardiness continues suspension from school will be at the discretion of the administration.
  •

Student’s Responsibilities

To attend school daily, on time and participate fully. The student who has been absent has the responsibility for securing and completing make-up assignments. The class work must be made up within a specific time period equaling one day make-up per one day absence. In case of a pre-arranged absence, the class work is due the day the student returns to school. All work not made up within the time limit will be graded zero.

Administrator’s Responsibilities

  • To review the attendance of students and to contact parent/guardian when a student has excessive absences.
  • To take appropriate steps, to insure that students attend school in a timely manner on a regular basis.
  • 5 (five) absences: Parents will be notified of days absent and reminded of the need for regular attendance by letter or telephone.
  • 10 (ten) absences: A mandatory meeting with parents and principals will be held to develop an intervention plan regarding attendance. The intervention plan will be pro-active and problem solving in nature.
  • 18 (eighteen) absences could result in retention (4.5 per quarter).
